ABOUT ULTIMATE
Ultimate is a respectful team sport, above all else. Please refer to our Code of Conduct below.
Ultimate is played by passing a frisbee down field to the end zone to score. The game is played with two opposing seven-on-seven teams, & requires synergy & understanding among all players to score points. In-game, players use pre-planned formations and tactics to advance the disc up the field in hopes to throw it to a teammate in the end zone to score.
Each game is played to 15 points (and ahead by two points up to 20). Each half is 20 minutes of game time with a five minute half time break. Games usually take one hour to play.
The sport is a ‘gentleman’s game’ with no referees. While “officials” and coaches keep watch, it is up to the players to settle any disputes.
There is even a professional Ultimate league. The DC Breeze proudly represents the District of Columbia and the National Capital region. Go Breeze!

Our Coaches
Our Coaches are all seasoned Ultimate players and we are thrilled to have them coach the teams.
Andrew (Window) Nguyen, Head Coach, Whitman
Coach Window is coming home to serve as the head coach for the Whitman Poets after graduating from Whitman himself in 2008. He served as the head coach for the ultimate frisbee team at B-CC for 12 years and steered the team to the Maryland state championship during 6 of those years. Coach Window also played on Redline from 2012-2013 and coached and played for the Bethesda Watchdogs and Redwolves club teams from 2014-2022. Coach Window has also studied the game as an observer/referee for USA Ultimate and Ultimate Frisbee Association, officiating games at both College and Club Nationals.
Eric Yoon, Assistant Coach, Whitman This will be Coach Eric’s first year coaching the Whitman team. He served as an assistant coach at B-CC for 3 years, helping to lead the team to 2 Maryland state championships during that time. Coach Eric played semi-pro for the Rochester Dragons in 2017, played two years in China for Beijing Big Brother, and played for Bethesda Watchdogs and Redwolves from 2022-2024.
Thomas Richards, Head Coach WJ
This is Coach Thomas’ third year coaching the Poets and Pitchers. He is from Silver Spring, Maryland and went to the University of South Carolina where he discovered the sport of ultimate. He has been playing ever since. Fun fact: Coach Thomas got to hike up Mt. Doom from Lord of the Rings.
Spencer Heim, Assistant Coach, WJ
Coach Spencer has over 9 years of Ultimate experience, during which he was Captain of the Dartmouth College Men’s Team (D1) and a founding member of his High School team in Greenwich CT. His favorite spot on the field is as a D-line handler, especially during a fast break. Spencer lives in Bethesda with his wife Sarah and golden doodle Quincy (who would make a great frisbee cutter).
All Poets & Pitchers coaches are mandated to go through a complete background check and complete required Safe Sport Training.
Tournaments
